Alice Halstead : Soprano

King Edward VI High School for Girls, Birmingham

Alice was a pupil at King Edward VI High School for Girls in Birmingham.  She is fascinated by anything to do with Geography, Natural Science and our wonderful planet, and concerned, in particular, about the problems of climate change and the destruction of the Earth’s natural resources and beauty.  She watches any TV programmes on this subject, such as ‘Nature's Great Events’.

In Summer 2008 she went on an expedition to Norway with World Challenge and in 2010 to Mongolia.  She visited NASA in Houston and Florida in October 2010 and went to Iceland in 2011.  To raise the money for this she intends to organise concerts and to go busking.

At school she also played in the orchestra and sang in a chamber choir and choral society.  The school perform regularly at the Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Alice loves to sing!  Sometimes she sings while studying without realising it and her friends have to tell her to be quiet!  She likes encouraging everyone to join in and manages to get the whole coach singing on trips.

Alice enjoys taking part in a wide variety of music making because of the fantastic sense of achievement through working as a team to produce something really wonderful.  She loves to listen to many different styles of music from classical and jazz to musical theatre and pop.  Michael Bublé is one of her favourite singers as well as Regina Spektor, Katie Melua, Norah Jones and Jack Johnson.
